Is it because I'm disabled?
A week ago or two weeks now (maybe three, I can't quite remember ) I saw an add on Tinder, offering a modelling job with what they called a top modelling agency ‘ anyway keep reading.....
So I swiped right n it gave me a website to go to and an obligatory form to fill in, needless to say I completed it (it had at the end, that I needed to add a picture _ I guess to confirm that I truly should be applying for this job…) anyway at the end of the form, in fine/small print it read ‘if your photo’s approved, you’ll receive an email confirming within 2 - 3 working days’. I filled in the form on a Sunday, I received a message on Tinder on the Monday morning saying ‘we really liked your photo, you’ll be receiving a call from us shortly’. Not that I don't think they should have been blown away by my picture, but REALLY…..… anyway I was in the shower when my phone was ringing so my support worker answered it, when I’d finished, he told me it was a bubbly eager sounding lady keen to talk to me. So me now feeling quite pumped n ready for this call , waited about three hours, then my phone goes, so I answer, he didn’t exaggerate, she sounded really eager, she said “Hello, yes I called before but you were in the shower, how are you doing today?” Me feeling so uplifted by her tone of voice, I responded by saying “hey I’m good thank you” you could literally hear her tone drop and hit the floor like a hippopotamus dropping from a great height , she said, “...a..er.. c..can I speak to your friend,” long n short of it..... I thought that was the end of it. Must say though, I do forget the impact my voice has on people! Anyway she said she would send me an email of some dates. She no longer sounded enthused but, had a bet with my SW that she wasn’t gonna email me back. I lost the bet, I will relay the email verbatim (word for word) Hi Lee, Firstly let me thank you for sending us your modelling application. After consideration from the XXX Models team, we are delighted to let you know that you have passed the selection process. **Please read this email thoroughly before confirming your appointment, as we only have a limited number of spaces available. ** We would like to offer you an opportunity to come to London in the near future, to take part in a test shoot to see whether or not you have the potential we need to move you forward. On the day you will have the opportunity to work with a creative team which will include, make up artists, hair stylists, photographers and other industry professionals. You will be in great hands, as the team has years of experience and knowledge in this industry both helping new and experienced models. What you will be assessed on: How photogenic... (obviously a cut n paste job) but to save you getting bored (if you’re not already lol 😆) I’ll stop it there! This email ‘in writing’ describes the requirements the agency is looking for... Weeks went by and I heard nothing, so my SW rings them for me, they said they’d been ‘inundated processing applications’. Me, feeling disappointed but contented by the fact that they were still gonna give me a call. About 19days passed by and still no call. So my SW calls the number, he is told "we are waiting for the application fee" what the h*ll £55 🤣 she’s got to be ‘avin a bubble mate! 😝 Anyway, my SW politely asks her to call me back in 5mins, whilst we discuss this.. all of a sudden i remember my mum telling me not to get mixed up with these ads or offers of modelling work based on an application form. She calls back... I was ready….. She said “So will you be coming?..” I said “Do you think it's ok to take advantage of a disabled person?” she sounded shocked, n said “Oh...er ...no, so do you want me to cancel your application?.” I said “What do you think!” Must say that I was quite pleased not to have been conned out of £55 but at the same time, disappointed not to have been picked to be the new face of Paco Robanne’s, Invictus 😆

Dear Lee, I have a problem. I can't stop wetting myself. All in all your story touched a spot. I am so pleased those thieves did not get your cash, but also hurt. :( Because you would look great on Pacco Robanns Invictus :D Keep up the good work mate ;)

AuthorHi I'm Lee, my mum encouraged me to write a blog about my experiences as a disabled young man and to be honest, I wasn't quite sold on the idea but thought it might help other disabled people and particularly able bodied people to see things from a different perspective. Ok, let me start at the beginning; my disability was acquired after I was involved in a hit and run accident over 10 years ago. I suffered a TBI (for those who don't know - Traumatic Brain Injury).
